What kind of tracking sensor to use to detect lost objects?

tracking sensor

hi,i need some help here..do someone know what kind of sensor should i used to detect lost object..like when im implant the sensor in the object and i can detect where is the object are...like tracking device..but i dont want GPS..thanks..
