what is the actual what-if analysis in the prime time ? what it does ?

What if analysis in PT :

Prime time is able to perform the analysis without modifying the original netlist, with the changes you applied on the netlist and produce the results for debugging purposes is called what if analysis.

For ex, The original netlist contains very low drive strengths in critical path and you need to check, if you replace that cell with high drive strength cells, how speed the circuit can work. It allows you to specify for replacement or it will give the estimates of the delay calculation with replacing all other cells with matching functionality available in the library.

If you are satisfied with the results, you can write out the ECO changes and use the same script for modifying the netlist in DC or layout tool.

our friends can add more..

Sam
