VHDL

What is VHDL? I am interested in its aspects of use and design?
Does exist some alternatives? Which company is best for this?
Regards.

Re: VHDL

VHDL is a kind of "hardware description language".
Another language is also popular is VerilogHDL.
VHDL style look like a Pascal and also VerilogHDL look like a C.
VHDL is used to designed hardware. And you can synthesis, place and route to FPGA or ASIC.

Re: VHDL

Hi,

I am also interested in VHDL. Is the compiler for this language free downloadable?

Regards.

Re: VHDL

The tools of VHDL or VerilogHDL is not free, but evaluation !!
You can try to simulator is ModelSim at www.model.com
About FPGA device and tools, you can see the information at www.xilinx.com or www.altera.com.

Re: VHDL

Hi,

You can download Xilinx free ISE webpack or Altera QuartusII :

h**p://www.xilinx.com/xlnx/xebiz/designResources/ip_product_details.jsp?key=DS-ISE-WEBPACK

h**ps://www.altera.com/support/software/download/altera_design/quartus_we/dnl-quartus_we.jsp

Re: VHDL

There are some free VHDL compilers on the web .. but most of them are not under windows .. if u r familiar with linux, then u can make use of some free downloadable VHDL compilers that work under linux ..

Re: VHDL

hi

there is program called "max plus" there is a student edittion available free for it need only registeration

Because most of the questions are asked by others I am going to answer the last one. Which is best?

VHDL is Pascal Ada likely
Verilog looks like C

Verilog is used in private organisations in USA while VHDL in goverment or companies with contracts with goverments. There are companies in private sector which use VHDL also.

In europe Verlog is more popular although VHDL is still strong in market of designing chips with HDL.

I wont tell you which is best. Now you read these comments and make your own decisions. The best is to have a fundamental grasp of both but be specialized in one of them.

Re: VHDL

Hi

VHDL is a acronym for:

(V) Hardware Description Language
(V) -> Very High Speed Integrated Circuits (VHSIC)

VHDL is belong to family of parallel languages calld HDL (Hardware Description Languages).

The most common languages in this methodoly are:

VHDL with IEEE STD 2002
Verilog with IEEE STD 2001
SystemC
SystemVerilog
Abel HDL
....

The most common tools and vendors in HDL are:

Modelsim (from Mentor Graphics)
Active-HDL from Aldec
VCS from Synopsys
NC-Verilog from Cadence
Verilog-XL from Cadence

The world of today is the world of co-existance not dominance!!!

You can convert your designs in Verilog into VHDL or vice versa
use:

X-HDL from X-Tek (VHDL <-> Verilog)

Analog Versus Digital:

HDL languages is now going into swallow the world of Analog and mixed-mode too.

Verilog-A and AMS trends in Verification, simulation and synthesis are going into the real facts.

The future:
How knows what future is clear?

I think object-oriented approaches and distributed simulation environments will be holded in the future HDL approaches.

tnx

Re: VHDL

verilog HDL is a C based concurrent language.
it is used for describing hardwares and is the most popular HDL.
you can use synopsys-VCS tool for compile your projects

Re: VHDL

VHDL is an abbreviation for VHSIC Hardware Description Language. VHSIC is an abbreviation of Very High Speed Integrated Circuit. It is a language for describing digital electronic systems.
VHDL is all of the following:
1.Non-proprietary language.
2.Widely supported Hardware Description Language(HDL).
3.Programming language.
4.Simulation language.
5.Documentation language.
6.Usable for logic synthesis.

Re: VHDL

if you are beginer, i advise you to start with the Verilog HDL.
this language because of its simplicity and also its similarity to C language
is more popular than VHDL.

try it.

Re: VHDL

VHDL is powerful....but verilog is alos nice..
I heard that AHDL is the most powerful among all..

VHDL

IT IS HARDWARE DESCRIPTION LANG. USE XILINX . IT IS THE BEST. DOWNLOAD WEBPACK-FREE DOWNLOAD.
