What is the simplest method for testing BJT?

Hi,

Just wanted to check if there was a simple way of testing if a BJT has failed or not.

The one I have appears to operate but is getting hotter than normal.

If it is operating normally (except getting hot), then there will be a dissipation (in the form of heat), it can be check by measuring voltage across emitter and collector and current flowing through it. (just multiply both i.e. V and I) you will get the answer.
