role played by W/L ratio

what is the role played by W/L ratio and device scaling of a MOS device... what we are achieving by the same..

Re: role played by W/L ratio

1. Current carrying capability depends on the W/L ratio of the device.

2. Resitance is inversely proportional to this ratio.

3. in CMOS Device PMOS is generally a weak device & NMOS is a strong device to control the delay. As strong PMOS results in high delay.
this can be done by adjusting W/L(Aspect Ratio)

4. Scaling is generally of two types
-constant voltage
-full Scaling

in both types W/L ratio remains same as both are reduced by same factor S.

*
Short L results in decreased Vt
Short W results in increased Vt.*
