hello every one ..
what is the main purpose of the core in inductors ..
what is the difference b/w with core and without core..
what is air core and iron core and ferrite core why we using these..
how to select these core..
i search about this but i am not get sufficient information...
please help meee..

hi T,

Core increases flux linkage in transformers.

Hi,

Benefit: increases inductance, the coils can be smaller, it increases energy-to-volume rate,
Drawback: limited flux--> saturation, unlinearity, remanence, loss, ...especially with high frequency

It is somehow compareable with a dielctric in capacitors.

An extra benefit: Confine most of the (electro)magnetic flux within a restricted volume because of its greater permeability if compared to air, therefore inducing less interference in the surroundings.

if you do high frequency smps, you cannot use iron core inductors, because the core losses woudl be too high.
