What is METTOP layer?

Hi all experts,

I have these 2 questions, please help me with some answers.

1. What is METTOP layer? If I work with the technology has 7 layers, so is the METTOP as the same as MET7?

2. And what is POR layer?

Many thanks,
A.T

What is METTOP layer?

metop stands for metal option layer.
this is used mainly in connection of spares in the layout, if a spare ha s to be connected to the circuit then this layer is used in connecting .
this is useful because this helps in generating only one mask if the retapeout is to be done connecting the spares in the circuit.
this metop layer need not be the top most layer and will be decided by the proj mambers.

Re: What is METTOP layer?

METTOP is the top metal layer.
EX: If ur process is 1 poly 8 metal then Metal-8 is the METTOP layer.

Re: What is METTOP layer?

METTOP has special design rules those are different from undelying metal layers.
Usually it is much thicker, includes special slots or dummy patterns for stress relief.
So METAL4 design rules will be different for 4-Metal option than for 5- or 6-Metal option.
