what is the meaning of the dynamatic range of filter

hello everyone
i am now reading some thesis on filter
the dynamatic range is mentioned frequencyly,bue i don't know what is the meaning, can anyone explain it
eg: dynamic range(THD<-40dB) 54dB

The term "dynamic range" is related to active filters (using opamps or OTA´s).
It is clear that the signal voltages are limited (because of the power supplies).
Now, dynamic range is the maximum range of signal voltages which is allowed for a certain upper signal distortion limit.
In your example: The input signals may vary by 54 db and the THD will be lower than -40 dB (absolut: 0.01 or 1%).
