Reactance is the imaginary part of the inductance. It will effect the power factor( quality of the power taken). the less the reactance is , the more the power factor and so the less power wastage.

If inductance is more, pf is less and consequntly the apparant power will be more which causes the rating of the conductor to be more..

I have exaplained in power system level.............. I think it will be useful to some extent....

The word "reactance" means re-drive:"
reactance = reactus = past part of reagere = re + agere = re + to drive.

Resistors cannot re-drive energy, capacitors and inductors can re-drive energy.
