What is the meaning of pipelining?

Pipeline is a technique used in the processors in which the data processing part is divided into many stages seperated by registers. Thus every stage can process one instruction in a clock cycle and the instructions move forward in the pipeline. Thus the processor can execute many instructions in much lesser time..
