hi

what is manhattan routing?
are there other similar things in PCB design with this kind of fantastic code name?

pcb manhattan distance

It isn't Manhattan routing, it's a way of measuring length for a routed trace. The Manhattan Distance is the distance measured between two points by following a grid pattern instead of the straight line between the points. It is also sometimes called the "Taxicab Distance". It gets its name from the way a taxi has to drive following city blocks (like in Manhattan, New York, USA) to get between two points. See https://mathworld.wolfram.com/TaxicabMetric.html

The relationship to PCB routing comes from the fact that most autorouters follow the defined grid when trying to find the shortest distance between nodes on a board. Some EDA packages let you display the Manhattan Distance between two nodes. It's a way of checking the length of the routes.
