what is evcd

Also how is the SAIF file used in power estimation??

what is evcd file?

Hi Bharat,
Both EVCD and SAIF (Switching Activity Interchange Format) can be used for Power Calculation. SAIF is widely used because of the tool recognised in the industry (Power Compiler). EVCD is an extinsible format of VCD file and that also widely using in the industry.

Thanks,
-Paul

different between vcd and evcd

1) Difference between SAIF and EVCD:
SAIF: this defined the switching activity of a nets in the design, in terms of toffle rate, state probability in 1 , 0 and X.
EVCD: VCD that captures the activity and time of every event on each net. EVCD additionally has the directional information.

2) Using SAIF , we can do a average power analysis. That is, we propagae the switching activity from SAIF. From this change of values in net, we predict the cell transition and together the acitivty in cell and net contributed to the dynamic switching power
where as VCD, captures activity and time of every event on each net, the peak power can be calculated accuratly using it.

My 2 cents!!!!
