what is the difference between PIC 18F452 and 16F877?

i wanted to know what are the differences between PIC 18F452 and 16F877?
what advantages i get if i use 18F452
what thing i will compromise if i use 16F877

plz tell me as i m new to PIC

The easiest way to get know the differences is to download the documentations of both and compare their 1st page (3rd of the pdf). There you've got all the features of this MCU's.

Main differences:

16F877(A) is a 14 bit core PIC, with only 35 instructions.
18F452 is a 16 bit core PIC, with 75 instructions.
Note that both are 8 bit microcontrollers.

16F877(A) runs at 20MHz maximum clock
18F452 can run at 40MHz maximum clock

16F series have paged memory
18F series don´t.
