One of the vendor of software for signal integrity software once
told me that the companies don't like to give SPICE models
because give up much information to the competition. So
they got together and come up with IBIS modeling for it,
is that true?
Spice models give the info abt the design, that the companies don't want to leak. Also, for bigger systems, it takes a lot of time to simulate the spice models.
IBIS models serve the purpose of characterizing the I/Os but not at the cost of leaking the properietry design info. Also, the run time is small.
Hence IBIS models are more efficient.
That's why, all the vendors agreed to give the same and are trying to promote that.
