Hello all,

Which is better to start in, Assura or Virtouso layout tools? and what are the main differneces between them, and adv., and disadvantages of each?

Thanks in advance,
Ahmad,

virtuoso is the layout editor while assura is for LVS and DRC

In Cadence .
There're so many tools that i can't understand.

Re: What is the difference between Assura and Virtouso Layou

Virtouso is for drawing lyts whereas Assura is for physical verification purpose.

Re: What is the difference between Assura and Virtouso Layou

virtuoso is the layout editor, while assura is the physical verification tool...
this means that use virtuoso for making your layouts; and assurra for checking any error you have done in the design... eg: lvs and drc...

Re: What is the difference between Assura and Virtouso Layou

Right, there are so many tools for doing a complete IC design work. For basic IC design tools, you need schematic design entry + circuit (Spice) simulation; physical layout design, physical verification (DRC, LVS, RCX).

Virtuoso layout = physical layout design tool
Assura = physical verification tool

Both tools are provided by Cadence Design Systems (https://www.cadence.com).

Re: What is the difference between Assura and Virtouso Layou

hi
virtuoso is layout editor where u can draw ur layouts of various cells.
But Assura is physical verification tool for checking both lvs and Drc.

Re: What is the difference between Assura and Virtouso Layou

Virtuoso is layout editor. Provided by Cadence tool suite.
Synopsys, laker, tanner eda, mentor graphics etc are other tool suites similar to cadence.
Cadence has schematics editor, analog simulation environment etc for the whole ic flow.

Assura, diva, dracula, calibre etc are physical verification tools. these interact with the tool suite you have to do the verification.

Each tool suite will have some interface to interact with other company tools. Thereby allowing u to choose any layout editor, verification tool etc depending on various constraints.

Cadence virtuoso is one of the most popular tool for drawing layouts. I found it very easy to learn also. After finishing to draw the layout you can use the assura tool to verify DRC and LVS and debug if necesarry.

Hi Virtuoso helps you to draw the LAyout of cells ,memory, leads to full custom layout design,,

While drawing the layout you sticking to the Foundry guidelines or rule files,

How to verify it, then use the Assura ,

If youre a cadence user check with the support team .

Re: What is the difference between Assura and Virtouso Layou

Another verification tool is Calibre by Mentor Graphics which is most useful for DRC and LVS.
