hi guys,

i would like to build a cheap mp3 player.
what is the most cheapest decoder chip and available in the market?

If you want a real cheap MP3 player better go buy one retail.
I built an MP3 player and spent way more than a retail player would have costed.

If you still want to build one, a very good MP3 decoder is the VS1001.

Do your own costing first,because I found the STA013 to be much cheaper than the alternatives.

you should find the STA015 is the cheapest, I did a project some time ago with this device and we ended up using the 15 as it was cheapest device in the range (13,14,16). The STA013 also has a few bugs and requires a firmware update on every powerup.
