JPEG-DCT

earlier jpeg used dct while jpeg2000 uses dwt. what is the advantage of wavelet over cosine transform.

thanks

Re: JPEG-DCT

1. There are no boundary distortion due to partition of image on squares (for performing 2D-DCT)
2. Best reconstruction of edges in th picture because of short length of highfreq basis functions. (You know that DCT has the same length for low- and high freq basis functions)
3. calculation complexity is reduced
