what is pin-diode image sensor

This is an array of reverse biased diodes with thin layers on one side so that photons can penetrate to the I region and create a hole-electron pair. The reverse current from this generation is sensed. From the currents of the entire array, an image can be formed.
 

Is there some material talking about pin-diode?
