GDSII

Dear Friends,

Can anyone Explain About GDSII?

Regards,

Re: GDSII

GDSII is a format for layout data...it represents the shapes of the layout, its labels, etc..It stands for Graphic Data System...you give GDSII file to foundries in order to fabricate the IC...when you're doing DRC (Design Rule Check), the tool extracts your layout on the form of GDSII

Re: GDSII

I dont think So , While Doin DRC,the tool Wil automatically extract Layout data.. Which Tool,Wil u for Design Rule check?
After complete DRC LVS clean, We need to Export GDSII format file.....

GDSII is Graphic Data Stream, Not Graphic Data System....

Correct me if I am wrong....

Regards..

Re: GDSII

are you asking or stating facts...!!!
....
it's Graphic Data System
and you can usually say GDSII stream!

for DRC you can use Calibre from Mentor
in the DRC options, you get to choose the format for exporting your design from the viewer; GDSII or Oasis, etc...
...

the GDSII is the final format of the IC
anyway, that's what i know :)

Re: GDSII

M not declaring,Its a stream.... Tellin the Fact...
Since, GDSII is not a Graphic Data System, I said Its GDSII stream....
Stream is a collection of data which we cant be controlled/altered whereas System is the thing which gets controlled...

As u mentioned in ur 2nd reply,While DRC fix ,U need to get to choose format for exportin...
Its not like,While we are doing DRC (Design Rule Check), the tool extracts layout on the form of GDSII as u mentioned in ur 1st reply...

Regards... :D

Re: GDSII

why is it STREAM not SYSTEM...? explain
anyway, it doesn't really matter what the terminology is

for the DRC part, i never said WHILE
I SAID: "when you're doing DRC (Design Rule Check), the tool extracts your layout on the form of GDSII",OK

anway, that's not a tutorial..!

you know what, i'm sorry i ever gave any explanations :D

regards

Re: GDSII

So Its a Stream NOT system...

ok fine... As u said, GDSII is the final format of the IC ,Right???
Which stage wil u perform ur DRC check???
As per my knowledge, When we are doin DRC, I wont export my GDSII...
Make Sure, Design have ZERO Drc LVS , Then only, Export GDSII file...

Regards..

Re: GDSII

you know what, seems you already KNOW about the topic
why are you asking then :?::!:

Re: GDSII

I know,Wat is GDSII and When We need to Extract...
Just Want to know experts View in Brief about GDSII... So I have Posted....

Regards...

Re: GDSII

I think Salma is right. Its "GDSII stream" but "Graphical Data System".

And i want to add one thing here - Designers who love to save time would normally export GDSII and fire drc/lvs from the command line (assuming they dont have any licensing problem :D) and there happens a lot of export and import before the final tapeout.

Re: GDSII

Hai dude,

What chip maker is said true but with a slight modification.

stream is one which can altered, cant be controlled

system is one whichcan be controlled
(GDS and GDS II)

GDS graphical Data System,is the system where it has to be done to get GDS11 file.

GDS11 is the database fromat file called as graphical data stream which will be i n form of binary file.

Now the format is owned by Cadence Design Systems previously owned by Calma

GDS II is the final output file whch that has to be realsed to FAB.
