What is firmware loading in PIC18 Series Microcontrollers ?

Hello,

i have been familiar with PIC16 Series microcontrollers and i used to program them via pickit3. But loading firmware is different that loading a hex file in microcontroller ? Please guide me m confused with firmware and Programming the microcontroller.

ok as you are loading firmware in pic16f series,but they don't require twoboot-loaders because u are burning programm via serial communication so this is single bootloader.
but in case of pic18f series most of Micro-controller have USB interface therefore these controller have two kinda of firmware that is 1 is serial and other one is USB
so both require different firmware's as you choose for communiaction.
