Try Wikipedia. The antennas are not worth bothering with. We tried to use one, as set up by one of its "inventors" and it did not work.

In a compact range, a reflector antenna it use to create the "plane waves" within a short distance.

Compact ranges work fine, and are especially useful inside of a building. But they are not trivial to set up. Hacking away at some kluge will probably not work. Expect to spend tens of thousands of $.
