what is called as effective mass of electron? i encountered it in semiconductor physics

Hi~~

In a vacuum, the mass of electron is 9.1xE(-31) kg. But, in a solid material, because of the presence of mother atoms, the Newtons first law F = m x a is incorrect if 9.1xE(-31) kg is applied. The other value is to be selected and used as the mass of electron in a solid material, which is called the effective mass of electron.

Bye~~
