gate oxide

wat happens when gate oxide is very thin/??

it may lead to chip failure..........correct me if i'm wrong

Re: gate oxide

Very thin ? is quite a relative term.

Gate oxide can go really very thin down to atomic width and still work fine...but it all depends on the technology used.

The upper limit is that gate oxide can't go below the width of one atom of the gate oxide material .

However this is theoretical, in practical...its at least 5 times of above.

If its very thin, yes it will result in failture of device with gate material shorted to channel.

gate oxide

If the depth of the gate oxide is reduced the gate capacitance increases. In the sub micron technology, for a very thin gate oxide quantum mechanical tunneling starts.
