What does x mean in the speed of cd ?

cd speed

what is "x" in the speed of cd. 52x, 32x, 4x etc. what does x mean

when first time CD was made its specs were 150 kB/s. later on it became standard (just like standard), and now:
x=150 kB/s
so, 52X= 52*150 kB/s
