what is PLD

hi ther....
please i want to know the meaning of PLDs,FPGA,Veriylog, and what is vhdl?
and what do i must learn to program these..?
thanx

what is PLD

Hi

PLD - programmable logic device

FPGA - Field Programmable Gate Array

Verilog - High Level Language
VHDL - High Level Language

HDL are used to programme FPGA and PLD

Re: what is PLD

hi
PLD AND FPGA all are comes under programmable device family
PLD is stand for programmable logic device
and fpga is for Field Programmable Logice Device

where as vhdl and verilog is hardware descriptive language
vhdl is very high speed hardware descriptive langauage
and verilog is hdl language

Re: what is PLD

VHDL stands for VHSIC(Very High speed integrated circuit) HDL
HDL - Hardware description language.

If you want to program either a fpga or a cpld, start learning verilog or vhdl. the tools provided by the fpga or cpld vendor is quite easy to learn. all that it needs is a HDL file. Hope this helps.

Re: what is PLD

to start in FPGA....u need to learn VHDL or Verilog....it doesn't matter which one u start with...one of them is even enough....

for PLD...u can start by CPLD for instance...and also u need a HDL (vhdl or verilog)
..u can get a small kit and do simple applications with it...then migrate to FPGA...and do more applications on a kit also....

VHDL primer is a good book to start....
there is also HDL chip design by Douglas smith (design, synthesis and simulation of ASICs and FPGAs using VHDL And verilog)

just start by any HDL..good luck

Re: what is PLD

PLD - programable Logic Device
FPGA - Field Programmable Gate Array
VHDL- Very High Speed Hard Ware Discription Language.(also as VLSI HDL)
Verilog - Verify logic.

for learning VHDL you have to go through the LRM(Language Ref Manual or VHDL Book), feel free to contact .
