What do we mean by multiplexing gain?

Hello,

I read that true MIMO systems give a multiplexing gain, while distributed MIMO systems do not. Why? And what do we mean by multiplexing gain?

I dont know about True MIMO and Distributed MIMO.
but the multiplexing mean in MIMO system every antenna carries signals having different information.
