I installed 3 Linux boxes, and the host Ids are the same:7f0100.

see **broken link removed**

or topic "Hostid in a Linux machine"

there are many posts about this...

there you can find 1 of 2 different ways how get hostid...
I uploaded strace-d result from executing hostid....

hostid is stored in /etc/hostid - 4 bytes (but this file exists if you previously changed your hostid) or if you didn't - see in attached file...

why hostid, why not mac adderss.

what abou mac address? I can't follow you...

What coomand to get the MAC in RH Linux box ?

mac-adress

just run 'ifconfig' and watch the field after 'HWaddr'

e.g.

ifconfig |grep HWaddr
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:50:04:40:75:BE
eth2 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 52:54:40:25:74:5A
eth3 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:20:AF:39:FB:3C
