Soft and Hard Resets...!

Hi ppl...
I have heard about synchronous, asynchronous, reset on power up...
Can anyone explain what are hard and soft resets...?

Re: Soft and Hard Resets...!

It maybe as following :

soft reset --> soft ware reset , reset by firmware setting
hard reset --> hard ware reset, reset by "power on reset"

some module may reset by hard ware rest , some module may reset by soft ware reset or reset by hard ware & soft ware reset .

It's depend on how you design your module.

Re: Soft and Hard Resets...!

yes, soft reset is done by software , hard reset is done bybutton !

Soft and Hard Resets...!

Soft reset is through software... i.e writing to a particular register or a bit in the register....
Hard reset is hardware reset through a physical means...
