Hello all,

if you were given to voltages on caps (say Vx and Vy), and you want to find to find the division of both (Vx/Vy), how do you do it (passively)?

many thanks

Rule of thumb on voltage rating of capacitors, should be times (2). If you have a voltage supply of 12 volts, use a capacitor, with a ratimg of 25 volts. This is a general rule. Of course there are exceptions, like spikes. Use the same rule on the peak spike.

Can you elaborate the question please?
Are you talking of voltage division capacitively or something else.

thanks you for your interest and replies.

perhaps my questions was not clear enough.

you have an analog signal processing system, in which you have two capacitive nodes connected to gnd, each node holds a certain voltage, we'll call one Vx and the other one Vy, i need some sort of network, (preferably passive or otherwise very very low complexity low power active circuit) that can generate at its output the quantity Vx/Vy.

one possible solution would be to use multipliers/dividers...but these consume alot of power.

many thanks

hi,

you may use IC AD 533 & AD 534. This two Ic's are multiplier IC. It has lot of applications. It will act as a multiplier, divider, modulator, etc.. based on your external components connected.

use it and enjoy it....
