VHDL code for IR Transceiver input into 7 segment display

Title probably sounds confusing.

Is it possible to get "data" from an infrared signal (from a remote controller) and display it on a 7-segment display on ALTERA FPGA board? If so, can I have a small example
of the VHDL code? Do I have to do anything extra other than code it and adding it to the board?

Sorry if it's simple or not, I'm kind of new to this! I did try to search for specifics but infrared is really hard to come by.

This is something I found while searching, I assume I have to use rc5 as input? Then how do I display it to a 7 segment display as output?
