TETRA is an abbreviation of TErrestrial Trunked RAdio. It is the only official European Standard for digital Professional Mobile Radio (PMR). Accordingly, TETRA is a global standard for radio communication in the same way that GSM is the mobile telephony standard.
TETRA was developed to meet the needs of the most demanding professional radio users who need fast oneto-one and one-to-many radio communication using voice and data in their daily work. Users are typically public safety and security organisations like police, fire and rescue forces, ambulance services, frontier guards and other professional cellular users like transportation companies, courier services, energy utilities, airports and so on.
Most TETRA networks for public safety and security (PSS) users such as police, fire and rescue services are government owned. Other networks are either privately owned or run by network operators who invest in the network and sell communications services to private companies and government agencies.

but its not as simple as we think.... get full information on the project prospects before starting.......

Actually I have already a vehicle tracking system working on GSM network and got a proposal from other country to use the same on tetra network. Can it be feasible.

thanks for the reply

No you need the permission of their government to put your device into commercial purpose and take NOC of that government.. it involves lot of legal understanding between the parties.. if you are aware of it go ahead.. if not better consult a legal advisor about it.....

If suppose we got the permission. Will the GSM module used here will work there also or we'll have to change the chip.

thanks a lot for the information

you have to adhere to their country standards of law, and talk to the service provider about the service they provide for commercial application, the frequency of operation, and then based on the information , either you may have to change the chip or the application or the module.....

first you have to find out if UAE does not implement TETRA till now, or already implemented. as their law and order are very strict. Indian airtel service providers might not give out the details if not approached by a company or government.

Is there any module available in Indian market that works in Tetra network?

Please reply if you have any idea about the module availability.

Thanks in advance

yes tetra network is already being used all over india... hyderabad police ( cyberabad ) were the first to use it...

the modules from motorola was first used in these projects.... those modules are called as Cluster Management Module Micro (CMMM)..

Do i need an infrastructure for that? Will this cost too much?
where from to get the tetra module and what is its price?

I googled a lot but could't find any supplier in india.

Thanks for the reply

Its done only by motorola in india.... Its proprietary thing.... wont get easily
