Hello Electronics Enthusiasts!

I am curious what value is this Resistor.
Please correct if I am wrong, I think this is 342 x 10 to the power of 2 (or 100) = 34.2k Ohms.

Please answer....

Thanks!

Resistors of a solid color usually have a clearly marked ohm value (example '4.2k'). Anyway that's how it is with my collection of scavenged components.

I've never seen one with a precise tolerance of 1 in three thousand.
This makes your 3432 unusual, as far as that goes.

It must be a house label, probably from a manufacturer in the 'far east'.

In a few cases I have had to mark the value on a component.

If yours shows no sign of overheating, then you might as well assume it is 4.2k.

I am suspecting that this is really 4.2kOhms and not 34.3kOhms. This resistor is used as a kick start for the PWM SMPS supply. The thing is, the supply does not produce a stable output of +-15V. Out varies from 4-10V randomly. But usually kick start resistors are not that 34k value. They are lower of value and with higher power rating. It does not overheat also as it is just a kick start. :bang:

Remember that in resistors, first 3 letters are showing the value of the resistance and fourth digit is the multiplier( no of zeros to be added). So it is 34.3KOhm resistor.
Some manufacture name it as 34K3 and some name it as 3432.
