Using tri-state implementation to reduce area

In the AMBA specs says
"Using tri-state implementation to reduce area"
can anyone justify how exactly are we optimising on area when we use a tristate design.

There are no Master->Slave and slave-> muxes in Tristate buses.

AMBA is a uni direction bus architecture right?

There are two methods to implement bus.
One is mux, the other is tri-state.
MUX area is bigger than tri-state, but eazier to control.
