Using Tanner Tools for Analog IC design

Can anybody tell me what is the drawback uisng Tanner Tools to design and analysis for the analog field??

Somebody told me that Tanner Tools is design for Digital Design, is that true? What problem will I face??

(its a lowend implementation of SPICE)

I'm know about the tools in the Tanner, but someone told me Tanner Tools is suitable digital design, not recommended to the analog design! Is that true??

Hi
Tanner Tools are for Analog IC Design.
But I think they only support Windows.
(The Mars rover/NASA used Tanner tools. 8O )

But I use ADiT. (www.evercad.com) with Cadence's Analog Artist.
Because I like how ADiT can go from Spice mode to Fast circuit mode to mixed signal mode.

Try it ADiT. I compared ADiT with Hspice and I liked it ADiT.

Let me know if you get to compare Tanner's T-Spice with ADiT.

It is more suited to pure CMOS. That belongs to the layout verification. There is only a small number of Fabs supporting the rule set for Tanner. I think also some DRC features are lacking like antenna checks or metal density checks. So for >0.25u-CMOS the complete tool set works. But for more advance jobs only the editor remains.

Tanner Tools are for Digital and Analog Design.

You can simulate any analog or digital circuit by using Tspice.
By Ledit you can layout your circuit. For digital design you can make your standart cell library.
By LVS u can plave and route with your standart cell library.

2. Tanner have many tool ..but lack digital simulator (gatesim is poor tool)

3. another tool called Mycad support windows platform
www.mycad.com (korea company)
mychip -> fully layout & LVS DRC ..
mysynthesis -> vhdl synthesis
mylogic -> digital sim (not RTL sim)
myspice -> spice sim
mypcb -> PCB tool

4. anothe simulator called smash www.dolphin.fr
also support windows , but only simulator


if you want to design analog asic .. use windows version hspice
is best ..
aditspice like hsim/powermill is switch level simulator
(sometime it can use mos
level but speed will very very slow )

I have the Tanner Tools from school and would like to develop some cells using the lastest Technology files. Anyone have an Technology files for Tanner for .18, .15. 1.3u CMOS. I need the files for LEDIT, SPICE and DRC Tanner tools.
Please help if you can.

I was at DAC.
1. ADiT
I saw window version of ADiT. If I use my 3Ghz machine with window version of ADiT, then it would be awsome!
I saw their new viewer too. a lot better than before.. Again on the windows version!
ADiT-Turbo can be used with Tanner. Since Tanner does not have a fast-timing simlator for big-A blocks.

I guess you are talking about ADiT-Turbo.
I tried ADiT-Spice, which is definitely a lot faster than HSPICE.
I heard that new HSPICE release will have 25% speed up..
Is it true?

You are the first one to say that HSIM/POWERMILL/ADITSPICE is slower than HSPICE!! haha. LESS ACCURATE (MAYBE), BUT SLOWER?

Ledit is Windows based and can be used for any analog/digital
layout work proven DRC info is available for the process. ERC
is not available (I am familiar with v8.22) but that should be
ok in most cases. There is no provision for data base sharing
or design/group management, then it is only used for small
goups/projects. LVS is done against spice netlist, then any
schematic capture package capable to generate the netlist can
be used. This is good because S-edit is not the best package
around.

TANNER Tools could be used for both analog and digital custom IC design. However it is highly dependant on the application circuitry to be designed. For high frequency application accurate parasitics extraction is required, I had noticed that TANNER Tools could only extract the node parasitic capacitance, whereas tools like VLE and PARAGON could extract the required line parasitic.TSpice in another case has limitation in the number of analysis which could be performed and low realibility on high frequency circuit design.

One could also manually setup the layermap and DRC rule for L-EDIT with proper documentation from MOSIS.

Tanner is a good package for small scale and analog IC design. It supports full customer design methodology, like: schematic->spice simulation->layout. T-Spice and Ledit are all good, but never rely on the place and router.

The potential problem for a complicated design are:
1) Doesn't have the design flow of HDL->Synthesis->Auto Place&Router;
2) The DRC maybe fine for Lammda Rule, but for foundry rule, like tsmc rule, the Ledit DRC is too weak;
3) The same as ERC;

Tanner Tools are mainly for Digital Design.But yan can simulate any analog circuit by using Tspice the accuracy a doubt.Tanner Ledit is layout editor . For the digital design you can make your standart cell library and you can do custom layout too.

i think tanner is fine for analog. i don't know where people come up with the idea that tanner is digital - you can write digital in VHDL and simulate with modelsim - you don't need spice.

i think the new tanner 10 is pretty good. i wish they could better integrate their schematic program with their spice (it's pretty bad, needing lots of netlist file editing) but as far as l-edit goes, that is a really good program having better features than some of the $50,000 softwares.

Does anybody use latest Tanner 11? What are the new features from them?
