I am seeking a USB to UART or RS-232 converter chip in through-hole package only!
The transfer speed of that serial port will be 300 baud or less.

I want to build (not buy!) such a converter, so that I can emulate a serial port on modern PCs.

Any suggestions please?

How about this MCP2221? It is available in DIP. Will it do?

But I have also found this discrete one? Is is really that simple? (remember (300 baud if the maximum serial speed)

There is no USB in your schematic. It is a discrete TTL to RS232 level converter, like the MAX232.

I don't know about hole-mounted USB to UART chips.
You can buy a SMD chip and mount it on an adapter board.

Hi,

There are USB_to UART cables and modules ... but you want to build it on your own....

You could do USB low speed with a THM microcontroller...

This mcp2221 is DIP as well, I just found is and I think I am going to use this. Thank you all
