USB/RS232 Prolific PL2303

I have problem with PL2303.
I have made USB/RS232 cable by original schematic.
When I use chip from the original cable my cable works correctly.
When I use new chips there is no transmited data from USB to RS232.
However the reading from RS232 to USB is present.
RS232 outputs are in tristate.
ShutDown output (pin12) is high.
I don't use external memory. SCLK and Data pins are pulled up.
I think chip is in suspend state. Why chip is in suspend state?

Hi,
Just an idea, if you cable is sold in high qty-es by its manufacturer, it is possible to use custom pl2303 chips (usb vid and pid already programmed in ic), thus elliminating the need for external 93Cxx memory for usb information. Also, the drivers may be bounded to that vid and pid. If you install a new chip, with other vid and pid, usually don't work. Try to reinstall the drivers, or try to use the downloaded drivers from www.prolific.com.tw with the new chip.

What I have to do for this? (programer device, software etc..)
What vid and pid I must to program into chip or maybe external memory?
Where I can find drivers that will support my device?

I supposed that chips supported with standard drivers from original manufacture

You can't program Prolific ICs. They come with pre-programmed USB functions. The only thing you can change is their VID and PID (+ some simple IC settings), because they are stored in the external serial EEPROM (search EDAboard forums or Google for free simple serial EEPROM programmers). Check Prolific support page at h**p://tech.prolific.com.tw/ for last drivers, schematic and application notes.

I am not familiar with pl2302 but intersting in your problem, your mention that it received ok but rs232 driver in tri-state when transmit (concluded vid/pid is good), as i known some usb/serial chip like ftdi support transmitter enable function (for half-duplex comm. like rs485), try figure this point.

I can´t find the PL2303 Shematic. I need it for a new desing.

I ever meet this problem before.
If you didn't use EEPROM, you also need to put PULL UP resister.
Then it can work correct.

I can suggest you to use FT232Bm for USB to RS232 conversion.
It makes your work easier.

pl2303 chip

I have a PL2303 CONVERTER and have installed the drivers for it. When i check the converter by shorting Rx and Tx terminals through hyperterminal i get back the letters typed . But when i connect with the microcontroller i get dummy characters .

i have connected in the following manner

USB--->PL2303---->MAX232---->MICROCONTROLLER

SHOULD I TRY BY TAKING OUT THE MAX232 AS I AM NOT SURE WHETHER PL2303 OUTPUT IN TTL OR RS232 STANDARD.
