UART1 of arm7 LPC2148

Can anybody please tell me how to configure UART1 of ARM7 lpc2148. I am trying to configure UART1 to get the RFID input. But anyways its not gettin anthing. I tried to send a single character on hyperterminal using UART1, but not working. Its showing blank.
