Hi,
I am making a digital clock using the 8051 micro and the DS12887 RTC chip.
I want to know how to turn off the daily alarm. As it happens, there would be *some* value within the alarms registers. That would cause the alarm to go off at that point of time, once a day. Even 0x00 would be valid in this case.

In order to turn it off, my idea is to write something like 0xFF into the hours register or something outside the range of normals hours. Is that a 'decent' way, or is my method like a 'hack' ?

The other option is to disable the AIE bit in register B. But that would also disable all, including hourly alarms :( Basically, I want to disable ONLY the daily alarms. The hourly alarms may still continue based upon whether the don't care bits are set in the hours alarm register.

If there is a simpler way than my method, I would grateful if someone points it out.
Thanks in advance!

regards,
Seemanta
