Dear specialists,

I would like to characterize these 2 in-house TRL standards with my PNA to be able to create a new cal kit and then use it.

I have a line and an open which have been designed for a proper frequency band (narrow bandwith around 2GHz).

How many parameters do I need to create this new cal kit definition from those standards?

It is not clear why you don't have any thru (Trl) in your cal kit, but only a line (trL) and a reflect (tRl). If you're thinking to do the thru connecting directly the port1 cable SMA(M) with port2 cable SMA(F), I think you're doing a mistake.

In fact the TRL should have the same coax to microstrip transition in all the standards, also in te thru. And is important that the transitions are exactly the same for each port.

If you're working at 2GHz you don't need to insert any parameter into the cal kit (only the delay in ps of the line), but you should follow some advices:

1. use a short as reflect instead of open (short is implemented much batter than open, you can use a metal plate to solder at the end of the line or make a good ground plane on top of the pcb using many vias)

2. make repeatable SMA-microstrip transition (be accurate soldering the SMA)

3. calculate properly different lenght of standard lines (of course).

I hope it can help.
