Transformer Winding machine?

Is there any possibility of building your own simple transformer(smps) winding machine? :-?

You need a foot operated speed controller. The most important part is the wire tensioning device. this is normaly a free wheeling pulley or two with a very light spring to keep the tension correct. It would be possible to use a weighted pulley " hanging" of the wire. If you are winding a transformer on a square former then the task is very difficult as when the former is rotated by a tiny amount, you need to feed a piece of wire the length of the whole side. I suspect that to wind at high speed you need a cam shaped square pulley which is synchronised to the main spindle. So the wire is fed as four bursts during one turn of the main spindle.
I did once work in a coil winding department and have wound coils up to 27,000 turns of 40 SWG wire, but only on round formers!
