Hello,
I would like to ask a question on PCB trace width.
I am routing an extension board on which there will be H-bridges for connecting DC stepper motor. The motor has nominal current of 1A and voltage of 5V, which is much larger than current through chips.
For traces that are used to convey signal, I normally use width of 5mil, and for power and GND pins of IC, I normally use widths not exceeding 12mil. However, 1A current for the DC motor is dozens of time larger than the current through any single signal or power/GND pin of ICs, so how should I determine the trace width?
Could anyone help on this?
