Hello All. I have a question regarding the topology I need for my application.

I want to charge 750 microfarads up to 1200V for a coil gun application. I am going to be using (rectified) 120Vac single phase. I want to do this with a dc-dc sitchmode power supply. I need to pick a topology though.

I think for the charging time I want, I need an output power of somewhere around 200-250W. The converter needs to operate in the discontinuous mode.

I am torn between two topologies: A two-switch forward converter, or a half-bridge.

Apparently, a half bridge cant use current mode control.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? A full bridge is out of the question for me (too many parts, not enough $$). Thanks!
