To display different patterns on an LED matrix using atmega8

Can anyone help me to do dis task??...ie..to display the alphabets from A to Z on atmega8....First of all we are inputing something on the system .It is then send via arduino(acting as master) to the microcontroller atmega8...there are 16 such atmega8s(acting as slaves)...From there according to the coding on atmega8, should display the correspnding letters entered to the system...letters are shifted from one ledmatrix to the other....If anyone have any idea on any part plz plz help me...

Dont you think you are using too many (17!) Atmega8s for this king of project?
Search this bord for LED MATRIX of MOVING MESSAGE DISPLAY. You will get the idea
