Hi,
Our PCB manufacturer offers us thermal vias in dpak pads, and plated over on top and bottom sides. They are filled with epoxy.
How come the air that must get trapped inside them doesnt get hot and explode out?

The epoxy fill is free of voids.

Fill and overplating are related. You can't have VIPPO without fill. The question is if VIPPO (the most expensive thermal via option) is actually required or standard open thermal via serves the purpose.

On critical jobs I have the plating done thicker, 0.035-0.050mm plating in the via... Generally mil/aerospace jobs, cheaper than plating.
