Cheating Power Rating???

I need any one to clear the following points:

If any one want to buy an audio amp....etc and see the power rating is for example 100 Watt OK

1- 100 Watt is Peak or rms or what??
2- this 100 watt at what input level (what input power level needed to have 100 watt)
3- this 100 watt at which freq?
4- this 100 watt with min THD or it is the worse case
*********************

about the speaker :

1-power rating is it also rms or peak @ what freq?

2- 8 ohm ===> it is sure impedance so @ what freq. also

******

I want to know all the standard which contol all above

Re: Cheating Power Rating???

It all depends upon what country you are in. Some have severe requirements on the specification of the power rating.

Usually there is a set of minimum conditions this rating is for. There should be a load impedance, frequency range, and maximum distortion stated for the test. Also if the test is short term or long term (which stresses the heat sink capability.)

Here is an excellent article on power and audio..

It should cover all your doubts ..
