please show me the difference between fpga and asic

in two words:

fpga, "reconfigurable/programmable" chip.
asic, "fixed" chip.

which of these (asic or fpga design ) is more in demand in the industry?
 

asic and fpga

fpgas are readymade, it can be reprogrammed anytime. asics take a long period to develop and cater to only specific applications. so, fpgas are in demand.
