dear friends,

please somebody guide me how to find symbols per dimension in PAM and QAM and what is the way to define symbols per dimensions in any modulation technique

thank u very much in advance

Number of "dimensions" in this context means the number of independent waveforms from which the symbol to be transmitted will the made up. The transmitted symbol is constructed by scaling the basic waveforms (the scale vlaue is determined by the data to tbe transmitted) and adding them up.

In PAM, there is only one basic pulse, it scaled depending on the data to be transmitted, and sent. So there is only one dimension.

In QAM, the basic functions are sine and cosine. You scale the sine and cosine depending on the bit pattern to be transmitted, add them up and send. So in QAM you have two dimensions.

Likewsie for any mod scheme find out the basic waveset and they give you the number of dimensions
