I got a buck DC/DC switching regulator with wide output voltage adjustable range. I was wondering if output voltage level has relationship with output voltage ripple (absolute peak-to-peak value) assuming input DC voltage levels are the same and with zero ripple.
Usually in design the peak to peak value is not used to design, the Vrms is the value used. That is because there are more signals that afect the output (PARD).
Output voltage has it's peak, rms or average value. No matter how it is measured the result depends on it's waveform or shape over time. If the voltage is pure DC it's peak, rms or average values are equal. Voltage with added ripple has different values for peak, rms and average measurement depending on it's shape. So conclusion is simple.
Absolute ripple voltage depend on output capacitor, converter frequency and output current.
and it is negligible depend on duty cycle.
if current held constant and you vary output voltage, ripple voltage remain nearly constant.
i mean if you decrease output voltage, duty cycle decreased too, and ripple slightly increased.
