Refer book by Khalid Sayood "Data Compression" for a good introduction to subband coding.

I dont have this book, but I have ebook of "Data Compression: The Complete Reference" by David Salomon, Third Edition. Let me know if you need this book. There is a whole chapter on Wavelet techniques described in this book.
