icd2 clone circuit

Hi,
I built an ICD2 based on Stolz , but somehow that is not working. Please tell me how will I check if my circuit setup is correct. I did the following-

1. I burnt bootloader BL010101.hex (2.98 KB) using another ICD2 in PIC16F877

2. When i try to connect ICD2 to MPLAB using serial port then in pin 37 of pic16f877 the voltage goes from 5v to 4.1 v...again if I disconnect the serial cable then it becomes 5v.

3. when I try to connect then it shows the error-
ICDWarn0034: Please ensure that your system's serial FIFO buffers are disabled.
Connecting to MPLAB ICD 2
ICD0021: Unable to connect with MPLAB ICD 2
MPLAB ICD 2 Ready

4. I didn't connect to any terget device.

What test should I run to check if the hardware or bootloader has any problem?

Thanks a lot.

Added after 1 hours 34 minutes:

While I was checking the voltage in serial port, I got the following-

pin 2 --> (2.3v)
pin 3 --> (- 9.7v)
pin 4 --> (5.1v)
pin 7 --> (9.7v)
pin 8 --> (-2.7v)
What test should I do to solve this problem??
Please help me out of this problem.

icd2 clone circuits

Hi,
After two days of 4/5 circuit settings I got a bit different messege from MPLAB.

ICDWarn0034: Please ensure that your system's serial FIFO buffers are disabled.
Connecting to MPLAB ICD 2
ICDWarn0054: MPLAB IDE has lost communications with the MPLAB ICD 2. Would you like to attempt to reconnect?
Connecting to MPLAB ICD 2
ICD0021: Unable to connect with MPLAB ICD 2
MPLAB ICD 2 Ready

Please help me out of this problem.

Hi fireball003. First of all you should check connection between PC and your clone. You should use short serial cable. Check voltages on max232 charge pumps. Check connection between max and pic. Are using desktop pc or notebook?
